Dr. Amlan Roy - Head of Global Demographics and Pensions Research, Credit Suisse
Amlan Roy is Managing Director and Head, Global Demographics and Pensions Research for the Investment Banking Division of Credit Suisse in London. His research links Global Demographics and Pensions to economic growth, inflation, asset prices, pensions, sectoral allocation, health, migration and insurance. He presents to a global client base (across 35+ countries) that includes fund managers, hedge funds, insurance companies, pension funds, governments and central banks. Dr Roy also speaks at 40-50 global conferences annually. He is a Senior Research Associate of The London School of Economics' Financial Markets Group and guest professor for London Business School's Finance department.
In a previous role at Credit Suisse as a Global Emerging Markets strategist, Dr Roy developed multi-country Risk & Allocation models used by institutional clients, government treasury departments and central banks. He also served as an expert on Financial Architecture/Crises Modelling at the Bank of England, IMF and UK Treasury.
Prior to joining Credit Suisse in 1998, Dr Roy spent over ten years in academia at Boston University School of Management, University of Iowa Business School and the University of London (QMW College and LSE). He had a distinguished university teaching career winning 4 teaching awards in 6 years at US business schools. He was named a UK ESRC Research Fellow, Ponders Fellow, a Boston University Doctoral Scholar, and Government of India National Scholar. He started his professional career as an Area Sales Manager at ICI's Chemical Division in India. Dr Roy has a M.A. and Ph.D. in Financial Economics (University of Iowa), an M.B.A. (Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad) and a B.A. Honours Economics Maths (St Stephen's College, University of Delhi).
Jamie Allsopp - Senior Fund Manager, Insparo Asset Management
Jamie Allsopp is one of the best known African fund managers in the UK. He joined Insparo Asset Management in November 2009, bringing nearly a decade of first-hand experience of African markets to his role, which combines investment research and allocation with marketing the firm's Africa and Middle East fund in Insparo's target regions. Jamie was previously with New Star Asset Management for eight years. In 2007, Jamie launched the New Star Heart of Africa Fund which invested in Sub Saharan equities.
Jamie Allsopp graduated from Newcastle University with an honours degree in Combined Studies.
John-Paul Smith - Head of Global Emerging Markets Equity Strategy, Deutsche Bank
John-Paul Smith joined Deutsche Bank in 2010 as the Global Emerging Markets Equity Strategist, with 28 years of experience in both sell side strategy and fund management. Prior to Deutsche Bank, John-Paul worked in asset management, most recently as a global strategist and previously as the head of a top performing emerging market equity team from 2001-05. From 1995-2000, John-Paul was a Russia and EMEA strategist, when he was widely credited as one of the few sell-side analysts to predict the 1998 Russia crisis.
Victor Pina - CIO & Managing Director, Javelin CapitalVictor joined Javelin Capital in February 2009, and is Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer. He is also a Portfolio Manager for the Global Emerging Markets strategy. Before Javelin Capital, Victor joined Goldman Sachs International in 2006 and managed a multi-approach Emerging Markets equity market neutral strategy whilst there. He was also able to develop a unique investment process, which he implemented in his fund. Prior to Goldman Sachs, Victor worked from 1994 – 2006 at Citigroup/Legg Mason, where he co-managed the Global Emerging Markets long-only product and built the Mexican equity business. Victor has a Masters in Finance and a Major in Actuarial Sciences from ITAM, Mexico, where he also worked as a part time professor in Risk Management, Portfolio Management and Equity Derivatives.
John Authers - Senior Investment Columnist, Financial Times
John Authers is the Financial Times' Senior Investment Columnist. He has spent much of his 22-year career at the FT as one of the most influential economic journalists in the world, editing the "Lex" column and authoring the "Short View" and "Long View" columns. The lessons of that remarkable career have come to fruition in two hard-hitting books about the instability of current markets: The Fearful Rise of Markets and now Europe's Financial Crisis.
John appears frequently on television and radio, including the BBC, CNN, MSNBC, NPR and PBS. His work as a journalist has been widely recognised; most recently, he was named Senior Journalist of the Year by the Wincott Foundation, the premier award for UK financial journalists. In the US, his videos have twice been honored at the Society of American Business Editors and Writers' Best in Business awards. He is also the co-author of The Victim's Fortune, an investigative account of the financial consequences of the Holocaust.

Charles Robertson - Chief Economist, Renaissance Capital
Charles, a leading emerging markets specialist, is Renaissance Capital’s Global Chief Economist and head of the Firm’s macro-strategy unit. He covers global economic themes and their impact on emerging markets.
Over the past decade, the scope of Charles’s work has covered, among other topics: quantifying political risk in emerging markets; how rising retirement ages reflect deep-rooted problems in the West and great opportunities in emerging markets; the revolutionary nature of growth in countries with non-democratic governments; the fact that Africa’s economies are now returning some of the highest growth rates on Earth, and how this trend is set to play out; the impact of terrorism and natural disasters on economies; the effects of falling agricultural stocks on food prices and inflation; and how emerging-market banks may have the best growth potential over the coming years.
He is the lead author of The Fastest Billion: The Story Behind Africa’s Economic Revolution (www.fastestbillion.com), published in October 2012.
Charles was ranked the number-one economics and macro analyst for emerging Europe, the Middle East and Africa in the Extel survey in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. In addition, his team was ranked the best macro team in Extel’s 2010 survey of equity investors, and number one for SSA in the 2012 Institutional Investor survey.
He graduated from the London School of Economics in 1993, and worked at a UK parliamentary defence think-tank and a research boutique before joining the financial services industry in 1998.
James Kynge - Emerging Markets Editor & Principal, China Confidential & Renminbi Compass (Financial Times)
James Kynge is an author and journalist who specialises on the Chinese economy and its impact on the wider world. He worked for 20 years as a correspondent in Asia with postings for the Financial Times and Reuters in China, Taiwan, Japan, Mongolia, the five states of Soviet Central Asia, Malaysia and Singapore, winning several international awards for journalism. His book, China Shakes the World, has been translated into 19 languages and won the Goldman Sachs/FT “Business Book of the Year” award in 2006, as well as other prizes.
From 2005 until mid-2008, James headed up the business operations of the Pearson Group of companies in China, overseeing a period of rapid expansion in the group’s education, publishing and media businesses. In October 2008, he started a new role as Editor of a specialist, in-depth report on the China economy for the Financial Times.
Michael Marrese - Head of CEEMEA Economics and Strategy, JPMorgan
Michael Marrese is a Managing Director at JPMorgan and is Head of Economic Research and Sovereign Strategy for the CEEMEA (Central-Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa). Besides managerial and publication responsibilities, he has continued to produce economics and strategic research on Russia, Ukraine and Central Europe, plus advise external and internal clients on portfolio allocation and market-moving events.
Since 2001, Mr. Marrese has been a Visiting Professor in Economics at Royal Holloway University of London and Research Associate of the Centre for New and Emerging Markets, London Business School. Since 1999, the Bank of England’s International Department and the IMF have sought his advice on changes to the international financial architecture and on developments in emerging markets.
Before moving to investment banking, he spent four and a half years at the IMF, where he participated in IMF-program negotiations in Russia, Slovakia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. During 1991-1997, he was the North American editor of the international journal Economic Systems.
Mr. Marrese was a professor at Northwestern University for 15 years before joining the IMF in 1992. He has a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and speaks Hungarian and Russian. His undergraduate degree is in Mathematics from Princeton University.
Artem Shevalev - Alternate Board Director, EBRD
Artem Shevalev has been the Alternate Board Director for Ukraine, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, Serbia, Moldova, Turkmenistan on the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development since 2011. From 2005 - 2011, Mr. Shevalev was the Head of UK Representative Office at the JSC “The State Export-Import Bank of Ukraine”. Previously, Mr. Shevalev worked as the Advisor to the Board Director for Ukraine/Romania/Moldova/Georgia/Armenia of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (from 2002 – 2005), as well as Private Secretary to the Ukraine Ambassador in London (from 1998 – 2001).
He has earned his undergraduate degree in International Economic Relations from the Kiev National University in 1996, further specializing in Management of foreign economic operations in 1997. Furthermore, he earned an Executive MBA from the London Business School.
Prof. Francesco Caselli - Professor, LSE
Francesco Caselli is the Norman Sosnow Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics.
He has earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Bologna in 1992 and a Ph.D. at Harvard University in 1997. Previous appointments include Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and Associate Professor of Economics at Harvard University. His research interests include economic development and political economy.
He is an elected fellow of the British Academy, the director of the Macroeconomics Program at the Centre for Economic Performance (CEP), and a joint managing editor of the Review of Economic Studies. Formerly has served as co-editor of the Journal of Economic Development, as editor at large of Economica, as a member of the governing council of the European Economic Association, and as a member of the LSE growth commission.

Mick Davis - Founder, X2 Partners & Former Chief Executive, XstrataMick Davis is currently the Chairman of X2 Partners and was the Founding Chief Executive Officer of Xstrata plc, a global diversified mining and metals company, listed on the London Stock Exchange and headquartered in Zug, Switzerland. Previously, Mick was an Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of Billiton plc and Chairman of Billiton Coal. Prior to joining Billiton, Mick was an Executive Director of South African state-owned Eskom, one of the world’s largest electricity utilities.
Mick has extensive capital markets and corporate transactions experience. During his career, he has raised over US$35 billion from global capital markets and successfully completed over US$70 billion of corporate transactions. Some of his successes are the creation of the Ingwe Coal Corporation in South Africa; the listing of Billiton on the London Stock Exchange; the merger of BHP and Billiton into the largest diversified mining company in the world; the initial public offering of Xstrata plc on the London Stock Exchange in 2002 and Xstrata’s subsequent acquisitions of MIM Holdings and Falconbridge Ltd., amongst others.
Persio Arida - Founder, BTG Pactual & Former Governor, Central Bank of Brazil
Dr. Persio Arida, Ph.D. is Partner of BTG Pactual Group. He serves as the Chairman of Asset Management and Managing Partner for Banco BTG Pactual S.A. and BTG Pactual, Asset Management Arm. Dr. Arida also serves as Co-Head of the Asset Management Business Unit of Banco BTG Pactual.
Dr. Arida worked in a variety of roles in the private and public sectors. He served as the Governor and President of the Central Bank of Brazil in 1995 and served as Deputy President of the Central Bank in 1986. Dr. Arida also served as the President at National Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES) from 1993 to 1994. He served as Special Secretary of Social-Economic Coordination, Ministry of Planning since 1995, Budget and Management from 1985 to 1986. He served as Special Adviser for the Presidency of Brasil Warrant Ltda. from 1987 to 1993.
He served as a Director of the Central Bank of Brazil since 1986. Dr. Arida served as a Director of Banco Itaú Holding Financeira S.A. and Banco Itau S.A. from 2001 to February 2009.
Dr. Arida was a professor of economics at the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and at the University of Sao Paulo. In addition, Dr. Arida was a researcher at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University, a fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. and a senior research fellow at the Oxford Centre for Brazilian Studies at Oxford University. Dr. Arida has received numerous awards and has published several papers and edited books. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelors Degree in Economics from the University of Sao Paulo.
Renato Machado - International Correspondent in London, Globo TV Network
Renato Machado is a Television, Radio and Press journalist. He graduated in Law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC - RJ) and began his career in radio in 1967 on BBC London. Thorughout 47 years in journalism, he was a reporter, anchorman and editor, joining the staff of editors in the “Jornal do Brasil”, where he stayed for 14 years, being the research text editor and international editor in 1970, with brief stay in TV Tupi – Rio. From 1996 to 2011, Renato was the chief editor and host of Television News "Bom Dia Brasil" (Good Morning Brazil). During this period the newscast changed its format to include more culture, music and cuisine.
At TV Globo, Renato was the Editor of International Television News and the international correspondent based in London, where he covered the elections, economic negotiations, conflicts and international accidents such as Chernobyl and the wars in Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and the Persian Gulf .
Back in Brazil, Renato made special reports for the “Fantástico” and the “Globo Reporter”.
He presented the “Jornal da Globo” in 1982-1983, coveraging municipal and state elections in the 80s and in the 90s he covered the Brazilian political crisis which culminated in the impeachment of former President Fernando Collor. He covered the impeachment of the first democratically elected president after 30 years of dictatorship.
In 1982, he presented the first “Breaking News” in “Fantástico”: National Journal Breaking News on the Falklands War .
Renato was on several occasions anchorman of the “Jornal Nacional”(National Journal).
In December 2004, he wrote the book Around the Wine, an introduction to the pleasures of harmonization in food and an ode to the social interaction that leads the wine. Coaithored “The subject is wine”, a collection of radio programs about wine daily on Radio CBN, where Renato worked for 14 years.
Renato is fond of classical music and is known as an expert in wines from the Old World – he was wines critic for the Globo, CBN, and magazines Monet, “Gula” and “Prazeres da Mesa”. For Television, he wrote, directed and presented the Special Reserve series, and co-presented with Claude Troisgros the “Menu Confiança”(Trust Menu) program, in which Renato harmonized wines while Claude would provide meal recipes.
In the November 2011, Renato again became the international correspondent in London for Globo TV news, with a daily live participation on Good Morning Brazil and a weekly column commenting on the international scene for the “Jornal da Globo” .

Leila de Vos van Steenwijk - European Head of Chinese Art, Christie's
Leila de Vos van Steenwijk studied Art History at the University of East Anglia, England. After graduating,
she joined Christie’s to assist the Amsterdam Asian department. In 2000, she became head of the
department and was responsible for finding a rare 14th century Yuan blue and white porcelain jar, which
fetched at £15,7 million and held the world record price for 5 years for the most expensive Asian art work
ever sold at auction. For the last 3 years Leila was managing director of Christie’s Amsterdam. Early this
year, she moved to London to become European Head for Chinese Works of Art.
Strand F: Metals and Mining
Marcio Senne - Head of Corporate Affairs, Vale
Marcio Senne is the Head of Corporate Affairs for Europe and North America at Vale. He joined Vale’s International Corporate Affairs department in 2006 and has since then supported in terms of intelligence, risk assessment and mitigation the CA workshop process. He has also supported projects and operations globally, through issues’ management, stakeholder engagement, risks identification and proposal of mitigation strategies, in close cooperation with the community relations and communications areas.
A senior executive with vast experience in Corporate Affairs, socio-political risk analysis/mitigation and strategic stakeholder engagement and, previously, a journalist covering international politics, having a business administration undergraduate degree and a Masters in political science focused on international relations. During his career, Marcio Senne de Moraes has frequently interacted with government officials from Brazil and abroad, as well as industry associations, multilaterals, think tanks and research centers.
Marcio Senne joined Vale’s International Corporate Affairs department in 2006 and has since then supported in terms of intelligence, risk assessment and mitigation the CA workshop process. and a Bachelor’s degree (BSc) Business administration, focused on marketing, from Fundação Getúlio Vargas
in São Paulo, Brazil.

Spyros Poulios - Partner, Crescent Point Capital & Founder, Seminal Capital
Spyros Poulios is Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Seminal Capital Partners, a 2-year old Beijing-based multi-family office focusing on principal investments in China and abroad. SCP co-invests with an extensive worldwide partner network of family offices. Mr. Poulios also leads the Beijing-based investment and fundraising activities of Crescent Point, a 10-year old private equity firm focusing on investments in Asia. CP has invested >$800m to date on a deal by deal basis on behalf of a world-class group of family offices, generating industry leading returns. SCP works closely with CP to source, analyse and structure investment opportunities in core sectors of expertise, including industrials, real estate, TMT, consumer goods, and natural resources. Based in Beijing, Mr. Poulios has 15 years of experience in investment banking, business development and principal investing, including in the corporate investments division of GE Capital and the M&A and Oil & Gas divisions of Credit Suisse First Boston. Prior to joining Crescent Point, Mr. Poulios spent several years assisting large private investors and families on a wide range of transactions across emerging markets. Mr Poulios has been a senior executive of a number of service companies in the energy, financial, and technology sectors. He holds a BA from Harvard University and an MBA from INSEAD.
Strand H: Driving Renewable Energy Forward in Emerging Markets: A Case Study in China
Helen Zhang - CEO, Hanergy International Renewable Technology
Helen is the vice president of Hanergy Holding Group and the chief executive officer of the Ground-mounted Power Station Business Unit of Hanergy Global Solar and Power Application Group. Hanergy is China's largest privately owned renewable company and actively develops solar project around the world. With its 3GW capacity under its belt, Hanergy ambitiously established 6 regional offices in Europe, North America, Asia Pacific, Greater China, Latem, and the Middle East. Additionally, Hanergy acquired 3 companies based in the US and Germany, with MiaSole (US) holding the world record in CIGS efficiency. Hanergy is innovative, technology driven and a strong believer in renewable energy.
Prior joining Hanergy, Helen spent 10 years in the investment banking division with Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch based in Hong Kong. She currently leads the Hanergy's global ground mounted solar business, focusing on Hanergy's strategy and expansion in the international market. Prior to assuming her current responsibilities, she served as the managing director of the Global Finance and Marketing Division through November 2012 to November 2013.
Helen earned both her Bachelor and Master in Electrical Engineering from Cambridge University, UK.

John Huw Jenkins - Board of Directors, BTG Pactual
John Huw Jenkins is a Managing Partner of BTG Pactual, member of the Global Management Committee and is based in BTG’s London office.
John worked at UBS Investment Bank (1996-2008), where he held several positions including CEO, Global Head of Equities, Head of Equities for the Americas and Head of Asia-Pacific Equities. Prior to joining UBS, Huw worked at BZW (1986-1996) and Hill Samuel (1986-1986). He has spent most of his career based in Asia and the US. Most recently, Huw participated in the Executives in Residence program at London Business Schoo
Karim Moussa - Head of Private Equity, EFG Hermes
Mr. Moussa is a Managing Director of EFG Hermes’ Private Equity division. He is a member of the Investment Committee of several EFG Hermes’ managed funds and sits on the Board of Directors of various portfolio companies. He joined EFG Hermes in 2008. Prior to EFG Hermes, Mr. Moussa was a Vice President at Deutsche Bank in Global Banking with responsibilities for M&A, ECM and DCM advisory in MENA. He joined Deutsche Bank in 2001 as an Analyst in the M&A execution team in Frankfurt, advising on several mid-cap transactions in Continental Europe. He moved to Dubai in 2005 to join the CEO of Deutsche Bank MENA in building the bank’s regional platform. In 2006, he joined Deutsche Bank Global Banking Dubai, where he advised on the sale of Sokhna Port to Dubai Ports World, the financing and acquisition of Egyptian Fertilizers Company by Abraaj Capital and the Dubai Ports World IPO. Prior to Deutsche Bank, Mr. Moussa worked as an Investment Analyst at Berlin Capital Fund, a Venture Capital Fund managed by the Berliner Bank. Mr. Moussa holds a Masters in Business Administration and Mechanical Engineering (Diplom Wirtschaftsingenieur) from the Technical University of Berlin.
Richard Butland - Chairman, Influit; former Head of Merchant Banking, Goldman Sachs
Richard Butland is Chairman of Influit and the former managing director in the Merchant Banking Division. He joined Goldman Sachs in 2000 as an associate in the UK Advisory Group. Richard was promoted to run UK M&A Advisory in 2007 and subsequently moved to the Merchant Banking Division to head its private equity activities in the UK and Natural Resources across Europe. He was named managing director in 2006.
Prior to joining the firm, Richard worked at IBJ Schroder Bank for two years and at PricewaterhouseCoopers for five years.
Richard earned a bachelor's degree from Victoria University of Wellington in 1992 and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1995.
Murray Grant - Founding Partner, Actis
Murray Grant is one of Actis’s founding partners with an investment focus on Africa, where he has spent the last nine years investing across the continent. Mr. Grant joined CDC Capital Partners in 2001, prior to the spin out of Actis in 2004. This followed a 13 year investment career with 3i Group plc in the UK. Murray joined 3i from London Business School. Prior to LBS, Mr. Grant spent four years as a consultant in the construction industry working on large infrastructure projects in Africa, Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Mr. Grant is currently a Director of Banque Commerciale du Rwanda, DFCU (Uganda), Copperbelt Minerals PLC (DRC), Mineral Deposits Ltd (Senegal), Candax (Tunisia) and Vlisco B.V. (Netherlands). Outside of Actis he is a board member of the Eastern Africa Association and AMREF UK Ltd. Mr. Grant has an MBA from London Business School and a BSc (Hons) in engineering from Edinburgh University.
Robert Fenner - Taylor Wessing LLP
Robert is a partner in the Corporate department and specialises in private equity, corporate finance and M&A. He also chairs the firm's UK China group. He advises on private equity and venture capital transactions for investing institutions and management teams. He has acted for many years for public and private companies and brokers on IPOs and secondary issues. The sectors in which Robert has transactional experience include software and technology, financial services, insurance, business services, training and education, real estate and natural resources. He has been recommended in the Legal 500 for M&A.
A graduate of Trinity College, Cambridge, he qualified as a solicitor in 1989.

David Landsman - CEO, Tata Ltd UK
David Landsman OBE (born 23 August 1963) is the Director of Tata Limited and was a British diplomat. His last diplomatic position was Ambassador to Greece. Landsman was educated at Chigwell School and Oriel College, Oxford, then gained a PhD in linguistics from Clare College, Cambridge. He joined the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in 1990, and worked in the Southern European Department. In 1997 he become Deputy Head of Mission in Belgrade. After a tour of the Balkans and Hungary, Landsman was appointed as Ambassador to the Republic of Albania. Before taking up his role as Ambassador to Greece in 2009 he served as head of the Counter Proliferation Department and was briefly seconded to De La Rue plc. He was appointed as Director of Tata Limited, the representative office of the multinational Tata Group in the United Kingdom, in May 2013.
